Oxford has developed a range of branded consumer products targeted at the motorcycle and cycle market, some 11,500 SKUs in total.

Most products are designed and/or specified in-house, sourced from the most appropriate factories and then sold both in the UK and via distribution partners in over 80 countries worldwide.

The person who takes on this role will be responsible for all aspects of quality assurance, including product safety and compliance with product legislation, standards and added value approvals.

Working hand-in-hand with our product managers and quality control team, the successful candidate will define and agree the standards which our products should meet, set up the procedures for checking that those standards are met (if necessary, devise and apply tests) and ensure compliance before and after production.

Candidates will demonstrate both relevant experience and a balanced approach to the role, combining commercial acumen with a passion for ensuring the integrity of the products which are brought to market.

As well as having up-to-date knowledge and experience of the application of product standards and safety legislation, the ideal candidate will:

• Be highly organised with an excellent eye for detail
• Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills
• Have experience of dealing with different levels of technical product engineering
• Operate well both autonomously and as part of a team.
• Offer expertise in the following areas: CE & BSI testing, REACH & RoHS standards, added value product approvals, risk assessment

As well as Oxford’s market-leading locks, luggage, clothing and accessories, the company also exclusively distributes several major global brands including clothing from Alpinestars and Bull-It Jeans, leisure product from Oakley, helmets from HJC and BOX, plus Muc-Off cleaning products.

Duties to include:
• Hours 8.45 – 6.00 Monday, 8.00 – 5.15 Tuesday to Thursday and 8.00 – 5.00 Friday
• Picking, checking and packing of orders using RF Scanners
• Assisting in unloading containers manually
• Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping in the working areas
• Understand and appreciate Health & safety issues connected to a busy warehouse environment.

As a result, we now require a Garment Technologist to help accelerate the development, as well as improve the quality of our product range.

About the candidate:

Applicants should have a background in Garment Technology or Design either in an educational or a work environment and a textiles degree, ideally within a technical specialism, is a requirement. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of product development, pattern cutting, fit, sizing, grading, garment construction, testing, standards, materials and manufacturing techniques.
The successful candidate will also need both a creative and an analytical approach to product development; this will be applied to both new and existing products within a culture of continual improvement.

Other key skills include: being able to work in a fast paced environment, organisation and the ability to meet critical path deadlines. Competent with Microsoft Office, predominately; Excel and Outlook.

As a part of the role there is the opportunity for international travel; visiting both trade shows and suppliers. It will also be beneficial to maintain commercial awareness by visiting customers and attending relevant exhibitions in the UK.

Job Description:

Purpose of role:
To enhance product development by maintaining quality procedures, best practice and providing valuable technical insight to ensure both current and future products meet market expectations.

Key Responsibilities include:
• Demonstrate technical knowledge to support the delivery of quality products that are safe, legal and fit for purpose.
• Identify potential fit, fabric or component quality issues
• Assist with product development by supporting designers with technical knowledge.
• Build competitor awareness to enable quality, fit and performance benchmarking against key competitors
• Work with the Quality Control team to ensure the Quality Standards are in line with industry standards.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the legal/product/retail requirements for labelling
• Monitor the critical path ensuring the product approval procedure is followed and exceptions are raised as necessary.
• Compile detailed tech packs as part of the product development cycle to ensure quality standards and cost efficiencies are achieved.
• Investigate and support resolution of quality issues in a timely manner with clear solutions and communication to both designers and suppliers.
• Organise and manage meetings with Design teams guaranteeing that the fit is consistent across the collection and product is to Oxford standard.

Further requirements of the role:
1. Suppliers
• Communicate with suppliers on the technical development of product.
• Assist Suppliers on technical queries concerning product development as well as providing follow up support to overseas factories.
• Creation of tech packs; providing detailed technical information and size along with ensuring that tech packs are updated with appropriate comments, specification making sure the suppliers fully understand and apply instructions.
• Advise suppliers on any quality related problems as required

2. Communication and Influence
• Communicate and interact clearly and concisely to ensure that information is understood
• Demonstrate effective communication skills tailored to the audience and objectives; provide feedback and responds to others in a professional, courteous and respectful manner.
• Identify and gather relevant information to solve problems and assist making informed decisions relating to quality standards.

• Work effectively with others to deliver common goals; readily offer support.
• Confident and clear communication skills; both verbal and written to work productively alongside other Product teams and external suppliers.
• Build a tight relationship with the Design team to collaborate and convey technical information clearly in layman’s terms whilst raising designer’s awareness of fabric suitability/expected performance.
• Exceptional eye for technical detail to consistently ensure the correct documentation is used and followed.
